Home brew IRON GALL INK made from scratch using a red wine-based recipe over 250 year old!!!

Only four simple ingredients plus time, continued research and lots of love. This ink differs from modern pigment-based ink in that there are no particles to inhibit flow. The ink appears grey with a hint of wine red upon initial contact with paper, then over the next several seconds it deepens as it oxidizes to a rich warm-black! We start with soaking the oak galls in a French red wine base to increase tannins and ensure a longer shelf life. Then add a few other magical ingredients so it flows like no other! Smooth as silk, writes like a fox. You can achieve super fine hairlines unlike anything else. This ink also has a higher pH (less acid) than standard iron galls so that your nibs won't corrode as quickly! Plus it won't get a moldy (and gross) top surface like most iron galls as well!


Do you know where Iron Gall comes from?
The base is 100% French Bordeaux (nothing added: just wine) in which Aleppo Oak Galls are soaked and fermented for over two month. We add our own secret blend of binder and other ingredients to stabilize the ink. It will last forever on your shelf. Just shake it well before using for the most amazing color!
